The Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) is Brunei Darussalam's main public institution for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Established in 2014 under the Ministry of Education, IBTE was formed to transform the nation's technical education system in support of Wawasan Brunei 2035 (Brunei Vision 2035). Guided by its official motto, "Inspiring Bruneians Towards Excellence," the institute is committed to developing a highly skilled, adaptable, and industry-ready workforce that contributes to the country's socio-economic development.
IBTE offers a range of nationally recognized qualifications, including the Highest National Technical Education Certificate (HNTec), the National Technical Education Certificate (NTec), and the Industry Skills Qualification (ISQ). Its programmes span a wide range of disciplines, including business, engineering, information and communication technology (ICT), hospitality, maritime studies, creative industries, health sciences, and applied technologies. The institute operates several specialized campuses across Brunei Darussalam, each focusing on specific industry sectors and workforce needs.
A distinctive feature of IBTE is its strong emphasis on experiential learning and close collaboration with industry through its Dual TVET approach. Students develop practical skills in authentic learning environments, including student-operated training facilities and enterprise centres, while many programmes incorporate industrial attachments with local and, where appropriate, international industry partners. This integrated approach equips graduates with the technical competencies, professional attitudes, and workplace experience required to succeed in today's evolving labour market.
