Committed to openness and internationalization, Nanjing Vocational Institute of Transport Technology (NJITT) has consistently attached great importance to the international development of its academic programs. In 2022, the Institute launched a series of “Chinese + Vocational Skills” training programs for ASEAN countries, exploring a demand-oriented training model that integrates professional expertise, practical skills, Chinese language learning, and cultural exchange. The initiative aimed to strengthen the skills training system of NJITT’s transportation-related disciplines, support international industrial capacity cooperation, and promote the dissemination of Chinese culture.
The training series featured five categories of courses, including Chinese + Intelligent Logistics Technology, Chinese + Road and Bridge Engineering Technology, Chinese + Construction Engineering Technology, Chinese + Traditional Chinese Culture, and Chinese + New Energy Vehicle Technology. The programs were delivered through a combination of live online teaching, digital learning resources, and online learning platforms, adopting an integrated approach that combined theoretical instruction with immersive skills-training experiences. A total of eight NJITT faculty members served as trainers and lecturers.
The course “Application of Intelligent Logistics Technology in Chinese Logistics Enterprises” systematically introduced the development and application of advanced technologies in China, including intelligent logistics information systems, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technologies. Another course, “Application of Information Technology in International Freight Forwarding,” used China’s automated container terminals as a case study to demonstrate how China is advancing the modern Maritime Silk Road. Participants were also introduced to skills training conducted through the automated terminal simulation system in NJITT’s port operation training center.

CHEN Naiyuan: Application of Information Technology in International Freight Forwarding
“Underground Utility Tunnel Structures and Construction in China” provided a systematic introduction to the concept and characteristics of utility tunnels, the development of utility tunnels in China and abroad, the structural design and construction methods of Chinese utility tunnels, and China's achievements in utility tunnel development. During the interactive Q&A session, Mr. Li engaged in in-depth discussions with participants on topics including China's utility tunnel management systems, regulatory frameworks, design standards, and green construction practices.
LI Weifeng: Underground Utility Tunnel Structures and Construction in China
The course “Application and Development of Modern Construction Engineering Technology in China” provided a comprehensive overview of China's construction engineering technologies, recent developments in the construction industry, and overseas investment projects under the Belt and Road Initiative. It also highlighted the domestic application and advancement of green buildings, smart buildings, and energy-efficient construction technologies.
FAN Jiongjiong: Application and Development of Modern Construction Engineering Technology in China
The course “High-Voltage Technology for New Energy Vehicles” introduced participants to the current development of China’s new energy vehicle industry, the structural principles of new energy vehicles, and safety design solutions for high-voltage systems. The highly specialized and practical training content received enthusiastic feedback from participants.

A series of cultural lectures, including “Chinese Tea Culture and Tea-Making Techniques,” “The Cultural Significance of Traditional Chinese Festivals,” and “Chinese Folk Cultural Symbols: The Twelve Zodiac Animals,” enabled participants to appreciate the richness and charm of Chinese culture through observation, learning, and interactive engagement. These activities further stimulated their interest in Chinese language and culture.

The training programs attracted more than 1,500 participants from 11 ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand. The “Chinese + Skills” initiative represents NJITT’s proactive response to the new trends in the internationalization of vocational education. Leveraging its distinctive strengths in transportation-related disciplines and professional clusters, the Institute has explored innovative approaches to integrating Chinese language education with vocational skills training.
Looking ahead, NJITT will continue to cultivate transportation professionals who are proficient in Chinese, knowledgeable about Chinese culture, and equipped with strong technical skills, while meeting the economic development needs of Belt and Road partner countries and supporting learners’ career development. The Institute will further enhance training quality by developing high-quality training programs centered on four dimensions: Chinese language proficiency, cultural competence, vocational skills, and practical capabilities, thereby building a distinctive NJITT brand in “Chinese + Vocational Skills” education.
